- Identify shared and distinct risk management challenges between SUD treatment facilities and acute care hospitals
- Explore strategies to strengthen care transitions and reduce adverse events for patients navigating both settings
- Apply lessons from SUD-focused safety practices to acute care, and vice versa, to drive innovation in risk management
- Review current Alabama legislation as it applies to healthcare
- Discuss current issues with Alabama’s legal climate and how one organization is making it their mission to push change in our state
- Understand the projected nursing workforce shortage in Alabama
- Differentiate between levels of unlicensed nurse categories regulated by the Alabama Board of Nursing
- Recognize signs of nurses with substance misuse disorders or psychological distress
- Be familiar with VDAP
- Explain the role of BME investigators and the steps of the investigation process, including how medical professionals should cooperate during controlled substance prescribing investigations
- Identify prescribing behaviors that lead to complaints or disciplinary actions and apply strategies to maintain compliance, accurate documentation, and effective communication with investigators
